"Wrestling is a sport that has turned many boys into men and many men into leaders, and it is a sport in which you can be a beast regardless of how big you are" - Carl Albert
Thanks for your interest in the Aggie Wrestling Team. We are so excited to kick off this school year with all new officers, skilled teammates, a new location, new equipment and a new coach! Being an aggie wrestler has many perks inculding scholarships! We compete in the NCWA locally, nationally and are planning to travel often this year. While we would ideally prefer students with high school wrestling or MMA experience we welcome any commited, A&M or Blinn Team student, male and female, all weight classes to join us at practice and see for yourself what we are all about! We look forward to seeing you and helping us make a name for the Aggie Wrestling Team! If you're interested, have any questions or know someone who would be a good addition to the team please visit the "contact us" tab.
Thanks & Gig'em!
Last weekend, we had our first home tournament in years. A total of 36 wrestlers competed from various schools across Texas, including UT-Arlington, UT-Austin, Texas State, Sam Houston State, and Central Baptist (division NAIA). Wrestling started around 9 a.m, and ended around 12:30 p.m.
Team points were not recorded since this was an open tournament at the Student Recreational Center, but A&M wrestlers were very successful overall. Six Aggie Wrestlers placed, with Ryan Garner (149 lbs.) and Brian Milford (235 lbs.) taking the gold in in their respective weight classes.
Next up for the Aggies is the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prarie, TX, on January 15, 2011. Texas A&M will be wrestling against UT-Arlington, top 5-ranked Marion Military Institute, and Nebraska-Kearney, a NCAA-D2 school. Needless to say, the Aggies will be preparing extremely hard in these upcoming weeks in order to prepare for this challenge. The next home event will be February 19, 2011, as the Aggies host the 2011 Texas State Collegiate Wrestling Championships at the Student Rec Center. More details will come for that event soon.
The Texas A&M Wrestling Team wishes to thank all of the volunteers who devoted their time and effort to making this a successful tournament. Their efforts have helped the organization tremendously!
Have a good break, and as always, Gig 'Em Aggies!
On behalf of the Texas A&M University Wrestling Club, we thank you for visiting our website!
Our team is proudly on our second year of rebuilding after being out of commission for four years. Last year we made great strides towards our goal of becoming a legitimate wrestling program in the State of Texas, and this year we look to continue to improve and build upon our success.
The goal of the Wrestling Club, as stated previously, is to create a legitimate wrestling program, both at Texas A&M and the State of Texas. To accomplish this, our main short-term goal is to increase awareness of the sport at Texas A&M. Ultimately, we hope to create a line of success, in line with Texas A&M's mission of Building Champions, that will build a quality, lasting wrestling program at this University. Already, we have received the 2010 Most Improved Club award from the Department of Recreational Sports...and may there be many more to come!
This year, we have several returning wrestlers, including NCWA National Runner-up Brian Milford (235 lbs.), to our roster, which can be found at the link next to the Pictures Tab.
That's all for now, but please check out the rest of the website, and check back with us as we update it continually! Thanks & Gig 'Em!
